My Behavior Change: Week 1/Chapter 1

I have to admit this week had it’s ups and it’s downs. I realized after reading chapter 1, I need to set realistic goals for myself each week in able to attain my long-term goals. I didn’t realize there was actual stages to behavior changes, for example the transtheoretical model. This model of behavior changes are augmented into 5 stages towards the actual maintenance of a goal or being able to subconsciously complete an objective . I would say for the most part, I am in the preparation stage. I’m trying to take action, but I need to have a specific plan to assist me and keep me focused. I decided to complete a behavior contract, which will motivate me more to keep myself on the right path. I believe in having something on paper and in small incremented goals, this will lead to my success.

When reading more about preparing one’s self for a goal, the acronym SMART really does come into play. My goals all are specific in it’s own, measurable, action oriented, realistic, and time oriented. I definitely need to work my self-efficacy if I want to complete any of my holistic goals. At this point I think using the meaning behind the phrase “shaping” is going to really help in making my long-term strides towards what I desire. This week I cooked one meal in a attempt to start off small when eating healthy. https://kitchendreaming.com/chicken-vindaloo/.

If anyone is looking for a healthy dish that’s keto friendly, the above link is where I received the recipe for Chicken Vindaloo. Just a warning though, it’s a very spicy dish, but very simple to make!

When it comes to my other goal of yoga, I found the section of mindfulness to be extremely informative. The definition of mindfulness is an approach of being more mindful and thoughtful of one’s surroundings. There are so many benefits when practicing this; reduction of anxiety, addiction control, and overall mental health. In the upcoming weeks, I plan to incorporate this practice in my daily life and not just when carrying out yoga. Lets hope I can do this!
